2018 Look-ahead

2017 was a great and eventful year. Looking back at it, it seems like the best word I can use to describe it is “position.” In 2017, I set out to explore a new identity besides my day job as a mechanical engineer. I began positioning myself in the local market as a guy that works with teams and organizations to help them create human-centered products and experiences. To an extent, I’ve had progress in doing so.

Late during the year, I was able to land my first consulting client. We are now working on redefining their experience and boosting their sales. (More on that soon). In 2017, I was also able to land my first request for training. Design For Impact is a training program that I’m preparing at the moment for delivery in March, 2018. The basic premise of the program is that it teaches aspiring entrepreneurs and innovators a disciplined approach to imagining and designing human-centered products and experiences.

Landing those opportunities was, to me, validation that I’ve successfully positioned myself. However, 2018 is where things will get interesting. 2018 will be the year I deliver my first formal training program, launch my first physical product (Taobla), and closeout with my first consulting client. For 2018, I have set the following personal targets:

  1. Work with at least 4 teams/ clients (consulting)
  2. Deliver my training program, Design For Impact, at least 3 times
  3. Launch my first physical product, Taobla
  4. Start drafting my first ebook

If 2017 was the year I started positioning myself, then 2018 is shaping up to be the year I build social proof and credibility through projects.

Last but not least, I wanted to share with you my favorite books from 2017. Those have not necessarily been released in 2017, but are ones that I’ve read this year.

  1. Hunch by Bernadette Jiwa
  2. Smartcuts by Shane Snow
  3. Building a Storybrand by Donald Miller

Wishing you all a happy and productive 2018!
